Somerset Veterinary Centre was first established in 1995 by Dr Peter Holm.
He was the chief Veterinary Officer at Hawkridge abattoir in Camdale which shutdown in 1994.

Rather than relocating, he chose to stay in the area and open his own private practice.
He purchased the clinic on 29 Falmouth St, which was originally a house, and he converted it into a vet clinic.
In 1996, Dr Holm expanded his business and leased another premises in Wilson St in Burnie.
This was when the clinic was renamed Town and Country Vets.

During this time he serviced dairy farms from Riana - Prolenna and accepted small animal clients from anywhere in the area.
In the early 2000s the clinic on Wilson St closed its doors permanently, but the name Town and Country Vet Service stuck.
In 2017, Dr Holm retired and sold his practice to Dr Suzanne van Es. Sue amalgamated Town and Country Vets with the ambulatory dairy practice she had operated from Rocky Cape.

The clinic continued to expand and in August 2021 Dr Leah Hirst brought in to the practice as a 50 percent partner with Sue. Having moved to Tasmania in 2020 with her family from a large dairy focused mixed practice In NSW.
The clinic now employs 3 vets, 3 nurses and 3 kennel hands and support staff. It continues to grow and is one of the few privately owned practices remaining in the area.
With almost 70 years of history, we welcome our clients, new and old, to help us pave the way for our future.
